I’ve always loved music, thanks to my mom, who always took me to see world performers back in Taiwan. She’d always take me out of school whenever there were excellent performances from international artists, and perhaps that was how I’ve developed my love for art and eventually pursued a career/hobby in art as well.
Of course, my dad was never happy about it, and my parents fought so many times because of that, but now looking back, I’m so thankful for all the opportunities to be able to see these performances. Besides, what’s so important about school? 😋
My mom largely influenced my taste of music, and she was a big classical music fan, so I’ve grown up with classical music as well, trained with classical piano, and always just listened to classical music.
However, before I moved to Canada at 16, I took my last piano lesson with a guy who was a lawyer by day and Jazz Pianist by night – and that was my very first encounter with the Jazz music!
I was immediately blown away by the improvisation skills of the pianist, and was so amazed that after three months of learning, I was able to improvise as well!
After moving to North America, I realized how big the influence Jazz music is as it is truly the music of America.
As mentioned in my previous post, one of the best things to be in Toronto was the number of shows and talented artists, and last week, I had a chance to listen to a Jazz Duo – Dizzy & Fay
It was indeed a beautiful night, and I was utterly surprised by how good the musicians were.
It was just a casual Tuesday night in the local bar, but the music was top notch from this newly formed Duo.
A great beer, excellent food, and a charming Jazz sound are the best combination for a fantastic night!
Do you like Jazz music? Who is your favorite musician?
